Help Your Clients Obtain Official Mexican Government Vehicle Import Permits
Your insureds who travel outside the Mexico "Free Zone" will require a vehicle importation permit. The Mexico "free zone" consists of the states of Baja and Sonora and areas in other states farther than 20 km from the border.
A vehicle importation permit can be obtained online prior to travel at the Banjercito website. Travelers will receive a pass code and then should visit any Banjercito location to obtain their Vehicle Import Permit, between 24 hours and 15 days of receiving the pass code. Use this link for clients who wish to apply for a permit online. |

Why You Must Consult an Insurance Web Designer On Your Insurance Website
Being in the insurance business means that you need to be shown in front of possible clients. Your venture obviously can't grow if you do not have the proper exposure to likely clients. Being on the internet gives you access to future clients more rapidly than ever before. Yet to really get through to these individuals it isn't enough to merely have a website. You need to have an effective website. There are many reasons why you should work with a insurance web designer on your insurance website.
Clearly the motive for your insurance website is to produce new leads that will expectantly transform into customers. Having a web site is imperative if you are going to be a force in the insurance world. However this is not enough by itself, your website must be effective at giving you exposure to future business.
The internet is an outstanding marketing means if it is appropriately utilized. If you don't have a site that can be effortlessly accessed you might as well lay your marketing hard work into a ad on a desolate highway. The internet is the info superhighway and if your ads are to be found in the most ideal spots, then you can be simply accessed.

Immigration Reform is Back in the News
Immigration Reform is heating up once again. In December 2009, Representative Luis Gutierrez of Illinois introduced Immigration Reform Legislation to the US House. In the next month or two, the Senate will release their version of an Immigration Reform Bill, which is expected to be similar to the McCain/Kennedy legislation of 2007. For more information on Immigration Reform Legislation, visit www.reformimmigrationforamerica.org. Immigration Reform will have huge positive impacts on Agency Revenues, in all lines of business!

Introducing the Enhanced Drivers License (EDL)
for International Travel
By: Rachael Galiano, Account Representative
As of June 1, 2009, driving into a foreign country now requires a passport…a setback for your clients who are not able to afford it or do not have the time to wait for the processing. An option that is becoming more and more popular is the Enhanced Drivers License, or EDL. Although currently available only in Michigan, New York, Vermont, and Washington; it is gaining momentum at the state level and hopefully will be available for more states in the near future. For Canadian citizens, the EDL is now available in British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec.
The price of $45 for first-time applicants is attractive to prospective travelers who are facing a $100 charge for a first-time passport book. Other benefits of obtaining an EDL are the convenient wallet size card and the fact that it contains the latest security features to prevent fraud and identity theft.
The only drawback of the EDL is the fact that it is only approved for travel by land or sea. The card will not be valid for air travel.
The necessary documents needed to apply for an EDL include: proof of social security number, U.S. Citizenship, identity and state residency. For more information on the Enhanced Drivers License, visit http://www.getyouhome.gov/html/lang_eng/eng_edl.html.

Mexican Insurance 101 - Spring Break Travel to Mexico
By: Rachael Galiano, Account Representative
With Spring Break just around the corner, many folks will be making travel plans and purchasing auto insurance for travel to Mexico...some for the first time. In order to make this hectic time flow a little more smoothly, we've put together a list of the absolute basics one should know before purchasing a Mexico auto insurance policy.
1. No Mexican Plated Vehicles. Clients will be purchasing a "Tourist Insurance Policy", ONLY vehicles with a US or Canadian registration are eligible. Mexican rentals are excluded for this reason.
2. Anyone is Covered to Drive the Insured's Vehicle Under this Policy, as long as they:
a. have a valid US or Canadian Drivers License,
b. are 21 years of age or older, and
c. have the permission of the owner to be driving the vehicle.
Additional drivers do not have to be listed on the policy, although up to three names can be added to the policy. Clients should NOT let anyone drive their vehicle that has a Mexican Drivers License, as this will void coverage.
3. Be sure to include any towed items on the policy. Anything that is being towed to Mexico with a covered vehicle that is not listed on the policy will void coverage. Be sure towed items are listed in the "Towed Unit" section of the Mexican insurance application.
4. If the insured needs to file a claim for any reason, be sure they file the claim in Mexico! In the unfortunate event of a Theft or Collision, it is important to call the number on the policy so an adjuster can come to the scene and make a report. If the insured returns to the US without the adjuster's report the coverage will be void.
5. Have the insured always print two copies of the policy. It's a good idea to have the insured print two copies of the Mexican auto insurance policy...keeping one in the glove box, and one at the hotel. In the event a vehicle is stolen, the insured will still have proof of insurance and the phone numbers needed to make a claim.
6. Check the A.M. BEST rating. Clients can always find a cheaper Mexican auto insurance policy...kiosks and roadside vendors are happy to sell auto policies for a fraction of what your clients can purchase through you with Mexico Insurance Online.
However, if they purchase a policy at a border or roadside kiosk, chances are, their insurance information will not be available to the authorities in Mexico, like when purchased online through your agency.
Mexico Insurnance Online only represents stable Mexico Insurance companies who are in the top tier of the A.M. Best Rating. To check AM BEST ratings go to www.ambest.com.

Mexico Insurer Solvency Issues
It is important to check the specific A.M. Best Rating, reserves and the local environment of Mexico insurers before recommending them or using them to sell insurance to your clients. A.M. Best has not rated three large Mexico tourist auto insurers who primarily sell insurance at stands on the border. You would never place your clients US insurance with unrated insurers, make sure you are selling Mexico insurance coverage through financially stable, A.M. Best Rated insurers. Each of the insurers we offer are rated "Excellent" or "Good" by A.M. Best.
